Jesus calls us to live as the salt and light of the world, humbly doing good works so that God—not humans or organizations—receives glory. However, the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG) engages in behaviors that contradict Jesus’ teachings, such as:

  1. Seeking human praise through awards and recognition.
  2. Misusing charity as a tool for self-promotion and evangelism.
  3. Promoting the harmful, unbiblical teaching of preexistence theology, which shames the marginalized.

As a former member and evangelist of the WMSCOG, I provide this witness testimony to bring truth to light and help others discern these issues through Scripture and the teachings of Christ.

1. The Salt and Light: Bringing Glory to God Alone

Jesus teaches us that as Christians, our good works should glorify God—not ourselves or any organization.

This teaching is clear: our works must point to God, not to our own achievements or prestige. Christ warns against practicing righteousness for human approval:

Good works done for self-promotion have no eternal value because the reward has already been received in human praise.

2. The WMSCOG’s Use of Awards for Human Praise

The WMSCOG heavily promotes their receipt of awards, such as The Queen’s Award (now the King’s Award) and various presidential recognitions, especially in Korea. These awards are used to:

  1. Bolster their public image as an “authentic church.”
  2. Impress potential converts, especially when preaching abroad.
  3. Claim exclusivity by insisting that they are the only church or religious group to achieve such awards.
