Introduction:

Today, we are going to go over trinity. This topic is wide-spread throughout the community of those that call themselves Christians. But is this topic a fact or truth? Because we see that the word itself is not in the bible, we have to question if the concept of trinity is biblical or not.

History:

Christians now-a-days do believe in trinity due to the Nicene Creed. With the help of Athanasius – 4th century theologian, all doctrines were deemed heretic and the Nicene Creed became the understanding of trinity.

It becomes very important to know exactly who Christ is. There is no hesitation when we are asked if Jesus is the Son of God. However, about the matter of Jesus being God, Himself, it is hard to say agree with right away (but most do anyway). Because of the Nicene Creed, most understand the trinity as follows:

The Father is God, The Son is God, and The Holy Spirit is also God.

BUT, the Father and Son are not the same and the Holy Spirit is not the Father and the Son is not the Holy Spirit

This concept defies human logic and understanding. This is the time where those who follow this up by saying “Have Faith!”

To strengthen their argument, they introduce the Greek word Homoousios – meaning “same essence”

The concept of Trinity has spawned so many different theories and doctrines (EX: modalism, adaptation-ism, etc.) BUT the word Trinity, itself, was not used until the Council of Nicaea, coined earlier by the Theologian, Tertullian. This creed went on to affect many religious experts already in existence at this time. One in particular was Arius – founder of Arianism. Arianism recognizes Jesus as the Created and NOT the Creator. One of the tasks of the Council of Nicaea – the ecumenical and international religious meeting – was to deem doctrines like Arianism as HERETIC.

How does the Bible regard the concept of trinity? We need, first, to consider how the Bible expresses who Jesus is.

By the way, there is SO MANY (Prophet, King, Servant, Son of God, Son of Man, etc)

Jesus explained to us like this.

John 5:39

Indicating the Old Testament Scriptures, Jesus was able to say that they testify about him. Only understanding the prophecies will allow us to fully grasp what Jesus is saying

Isaiah 9:6

WHO is worthy to be called Mighty God and Everlasting Father? ESPECIALLY in the OT Times? God Jehovah
